The Implant
The contraceptive implant is a plastic rod, around 4cm long that is fitted under the skin in your arm by a nurse or doctor. The implant can be 99% effective at prevent pregnancy if it is replaced every 3 years. Those who find they struggle to remember to take the pill every day find this to be a better alternative.

How do they work?
It prevents pregnancy by releasing the progesterone hormone and stops the ovaries from releasing an egg each month, kind of like the pill. Again, it does not protect you or your partner from catching any STIs.
If you change your mind, don’t worry, as a medical professional can remove it from your arm at any point.
